Recreational opportunities are excellent with weather and climate conditions that are conducive to four-season outdoor recreational activities.

Communities within the region offer top-quality facilities including recreational centers (9), ball fields (8), soccer fields (3), tennis courts (2), baseball diamond (1) and a ski slope (1). There are two (2) arenas, the Connaigre Arena located at Harbour Breton and the Bay D'Espoir Rec-Plex in St. Alban's.

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling through the regions stunning wilderness. Within the next two years the Snowmobile Association hopes to have trail networks completed which can be used for snowmobiling, skiing, or hiking.

There are many small bays, inlets, coves and open waterways that offer exciting opportunities for sailing, pleasure boating, saltwater fishing, scuba diving, canoeing and sea kayaking. As well, within the region there is great potential for whale watching and observing diverse species of bird life.
