The Life Cycle of a Farmed Salmon

The brood stock salmon (right) are kept separate from the fish being raised for market. These broodstock fish can reach weights between 7 to 9 kilograms. Above right, the brood stock is seined to one side of a cage to make it easier to dip the fish from the water. The fish is then weighed and dried to prevent contamination of the eggs and sperm during collection. bstock.jpg (35799 bytes)
