Fish Movement, Counting, and Grading
Project Status: Completed
Funded By: Aquaculture Component of the Economic Renewal Agreement
Introduction: This project was designed to bring equipment to the industry that would increase production efficiencies, provide a more accurate inventory of fish, and help prevent escapes by improved handling practices. Prior to having access to this equipment, the industry relied heavily on physical handling of fish by hand, hand counting and dip netting. These practices contributed to inaccuracies in fish numbers in the water, stress to the fish due to handling and occasional escapes from dip nets and grading tables.
The equipment that was purchased through this project is listed below:
1 6/4 Grader; designed for hatchery sized fish up to 300 grams
2 Bar Graders: designed for at sea use and adjustable fro various size and species of fish.
2 Silkstream Pumps: designed for ease of movement between sites, on site grading.
3 Vaki Bioscanner systems: one designed for hatchery use, with three v channels, two designed fro at sea use, with two v channels.
