Milton discussing his adventures.

On Sunday, July 1, adventurer and journalist, Brian Milton, touched down at the
airstrip in Bay D'Espoir aboard his ultralight, the "Lion Capital Atlantic
Challenger". About sixty people were gathered at the airstrip to greet Mr.
Milton on his arrival. Among the people anxiously awaiting his arrival were Mr.
Philip Hoskins and his students from Greeenwood Academy who have been following Mr.
Milton's progress via the Internet since he left New York. Mr. Hoskins, a teacher with
an interest in aviation, and his Grade 4 class have been studying the physics of flight
and the historical significance of Mr. Milton's intended flight from St. John's,
Newfoundland to Shannon, Ireland - a route followed by Alcock and Brown on the first
transatlantic crossing.
Arriving at Bay D'Espoir from Stephenville at 1720 GMT, Mr. Milton talked to the crowd
about his aircraft, some
previous expeditions and his current situation with Transport Canada. His future
plans for this particular trek have not yet been determined. Milton was especially
interested in the enthusiasm of the children and gave some of the Grade 4s an adventure of
a lifetime right there by taking them on a short flight at the airstrip. Off course, Mr.
Hoskins got to go for a flight as well!
After a few hours in the Bay D'Espoir area and a lunch prepared by some nearby campers,
Mr. Milton took off for Winterland on the Burin Peninsula where he planned to spend the
night. Mr. Hoskins and his students, along with the others who had gathered, were
very pleased that Milton took time to visit our area.
