May is Tourism Awareness Month in Newfoundland and Labrador. As part of the awareness campaign and as a followup to the Tourism Workshop held in March, the Tourism Coordinator made arrangements to have staff of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador deliver a series of one-day SuperHost Atlantic Workshops in the region.

The workshops were held in Bay D'Espoir and Harbour Breton and were attended by persons from all over the region. The participants were representatives of economic development agencies, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, gas bars and a marina.

The workshops covered a number of topics including how to deal with tourists - how to talk to them, how to treat them, how to remember them and how to handle their complaints. The workshop uses role-playing by the participants to allow them to practice their newly learned skills. There was also a discussion of how important tourism is to the community, the region and the province.
