On Tuesday, July 6, Their Honours, the Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Maxwell House, and Mrs. House, paid a visit to Bay D'Espoir as part of their Soiree '99 tour of the south coast of the province aboard the HMCS St. John's.

Their Honours arrived aboard the HMCS St. John's in the mid-afternoon which was preceded by an impressive display of manoeuvers by the crew of a SeaKing helicopter from the frigate. The frigate was anchored in the harbour and the Lieutenant Governor and his entourage was brought to shore by a Navy launch. On arrival at the Government Wharf, he was welcomed by the Mayor Jerome Power of St. Alban's, the Hon. Oliver Langdon, MHA, and a large number of townspeople who had gathered on the wharf.

The Vice-Regal party then proceeded to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 53, where a group of seniors had gathered for the occasion. Their Honours and the accompanying Officers from the HMCS St. John's were greeted by each of the seniors and invited guests. This was followed by a buffet dinner served by the Ladies Auxiliary.

The Lieutenant Governor departed Bay D'Espoir later in the evening for an overnight steam to arrive Francois in the early morning and then on to Ramea in the evening.
