Tracey Perry, Executive Director, and Sam Organ, Economic Development Officer, with the Coast of Bays Corporation attended the Boston International Seafood Show from March 16-18, 1999.

Tracey and Sam were sent by the Board of Directors with a mandate to observe and learn as much as possible about the different aspects involved with trade shows. This included taking notes on the types of booths used by exhibitors; booth set up; how the staff conducted themselves; promotional material used; premiums; etc.. Also, it would provide an opportunity for Tracey and Sam to gain some exposure to trade shows, do some networking, all the while doing PR for the Coast of Bays region.

It is anticipated that the practical hands-on experience gained will contribute immensely toward ensuring that the Coast of Bays has the skills required for activities such as investment prospecting.

It featured over 750 exhibits in more than 1200 booths, from more than 25 countries. Attendance and/or participation at this show is certainly how a company can help to position itself to ensure staying on the leading edge of the industry. It is definitely a very effective way in which to buy, source and compare the different seafood products. This is extremely important since there is always new product development happening within the industry.

The province was well represented by both industry and government booths. Other individuals at the show from The Coast of Bays Region included Max Taylor of English Harbour West and Roy Engram of Gaultois.
