On October 15, fourteen
persons representing various non-profit organizations around the Coast
of Bays region gathered at the Southern Port Hotel in Harbour Breton
to attend a Public Relations Workshop. This workshop was
sponsored by the Coast of Bays Corporation in partnership with the
Community Services Council.
The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Linda Parsons who gave an
in-depth overview of a public relations strategy. It was noted
that good public relations is important to ensure that the public is
aware of your initiatives which will influence their support of your
organization. Ms. Parsons covered a variety of public relations tools
including networking, business cards, brochures, newsletters, media
releases, public service announcements, open houses, websites and
e-mail lists. |
| The workshop also
included hands-on activities to allow the participants experience the
development of a media release and public service announcement.
The workshop also covered being interviewed for radio and television.
This workshop was conducted as a result of work by the Coast of
Bays Corporation, the Community Services Council and the Strategic
Social Plan which identified training needs for volunteer
organizations through the region. More workshops are planned for
the future and will be advertised in The Coaster.
Earlier in the day, Linda did a workshop at the Community Access
Centre in St. Alban's to create an awareness of the voluntary sector
vortal website which can be accessed at www.envision.ca
