Coast of Bays Mussel Grower's Committee goes online

(St. Alban's, Newfoundland) The Coast of Bays Mussel Grower's Committee officially launched its website today. Bill Carter of ConAqua Inc. stated that this website has a twofold purpose:
  • to be a communications tool for persons involved in the mussel growing industry in the Coast of Bays region, and
  • to be a promotional medium for the industry and the members of the committee.

Mr. Carter went on to say that this website is the result of industry taking advantage of SWASP (Student Work and Service Program) to provide students in or planning to attend a post-secondary educational institution with valuable workplace experience. He said that such arrangements are a win-win situation for all parties involved. ConAqua, on behalf of the Coast of Bays Mussel Grower's Committee, received funding through SWASP to employ John-Paul King of Milltown to develop their website. While employed, John-Paul received a weekly stipend of $50.00 and at the end of his workterm he received a tuition voucher valued at $1200.00 which he used to attend Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Coast of Bays Corporation viewed this initiative as being complementary to their efforts to carry out the aims and objectives of the Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) in the aquaculture sector and became a partner to the project. The Coast of Bays Corporation provided the use of a computer, office space and supervision of the project during the eight weeks of development.

The website is being hosted by the Coast of Bays Coporation and can be viewed at: http://www.coastofbays.nf.ca/mussel/index.htm or from the Aquaculture section of the Coast of Bays Corporation website.

Mr. Carter concluded by saying that the present website provides the committee the necessary infrastructure which can be further developed to meet the changing needs of the committee. He also commended the Coast of Bays Corporation for their participation.
