| Aquaculture Education Coordinator on Staff |
 |
The Coast of Bays Corporation in partnership with the Department of Education, the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association and ACOA have contracted the services of Ms. Elizabeth Barlow for eight weeks to update and revise the curriculum for the aquaculture courses being taught in schools at St. Alban's, Milltown and Conne River. Other partners in the position include the Newfoundland Salmonid Growers Association and the Baie Verte-Central-Connaigre School Board, District 5.
The new course will be a full year duration and will coincide with the natural production cycle of the aquaculture industry in the Bay D'Espoir estuary. Besides making changes to the curriculum for the Aquaculture program of studies, Elizabeth will be the technical and resource support person for the courses that are currently ongoing at the schools. She will also be reactivating the holding tanks on the water recirculating systems at the schools.
The purpose of this program is to link education in the schools with the economic initiatives of the Coast of Bays region.
