The members of the local band "Busta
Jigs" recently traveled to Corner Brook where they were presented with the
2000 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Award for High Artistic Achievement. The award
is presented annually to a business that is successful in the music and theatre field i.e.
theatre groups, dinner theatre, singing telegram, bands, etc. Over this past summer five
students from Bay D'Espoir, Michael Barnes, Dylan Pack, Christopher Bennett, Alan Hoskins
and Terry Garland, participated in the Youth Ventures program and the end result was the
production of their CD "Busta Jigs - Rocks the Boat."
"Busta Jigs" consists of Alan Hoskins (Bass,
Keyboards, Lead & Background Vocals) Michael Barnes (Guitar, Mandolin, Harmonica &
Background Vocals); Dylan Pack (Bourjon, Congras & Percussion) and Christopher
Bennett (Lead & Background Vocals). Terry Garland was responsible for the cover art
and the business aspects of the CD production. They attended the Awards Luncheon at the
Glynmill Inn in Corner Brook on October 6th. On hand to present the award was
Charlotte Jones of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, Doug Burgess,
Communications Director with ACOA and Bob Mercer, Humber East MHA. Once the presentations
were complete, Busta Jigs entertained their audience by singing "New York
Groove" which is one of the selections off their CD.
