Year Round Fishing in the Coast of Bays The Coast of Bays region, at present, is the only part of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador where avid fisherpersons can fish for Rainbow Trout year round. These trout range in size from just a few pounds to a trophy-sized fifteen to twenty pound range. The largest trout caught to date weighed in at eighteen pounds cleaned and was angled in the tailrace at St. Veronica's. There have been reports of the trout being caught in Hermitage and Gaultois as well. The areas open to year round Rainbow Trout fishing include the tailrace and the Bay D'Espoir estuary with the exception of scheduled brooks and rivers and aquaculture sites as marked by yellow cautionary buoys.

At present, there is no bag limit on the Rainbow Trout and fly fishing and the use of lures are allowed. Nets are not allowed. Rumour has it that the best bait is canned and frozen shrimp.
