Wins Two National Awards

L-R: Churence Rogers (Chair of the Connaigre IAS Committee),
Tracey Perry (Coast of Bays Executive Director)
and Don Stewart (Coast of Bays Chairperson)

At the Economic Developers Association of Canada's (EDAC) 31st Professional Development Conference held in Hamilton, Ontario from September 11 - 14, the Coast of Bays Corporation was awarded two national awards for marketing. Earlier this year, Tracey Perry, Executive Director, submitted the promotional materials that were developed for marketing the Coast of Bays region for consideration in the Marketing Canada Awards sponsored by the Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine.

The adjudicators of the submissions included Professor Emanuel Carvalho (University of Waterloo), Bill Henderson (Greater Hamilton Technology Enterprise Centre), John Buschaussen (KPMG, Hamilton), Jim McGumpsey (Fluid Media, Hamilton), Norman Morris (CB Media Ltd., Toronto) and Carl Knipfel (Manager, Marketing, City of Toronto).

"The judges during the adjudication process stated that the majority of the categories were extremely difficult to judge, however the category of Special Purpose Brochures - Project/Theme/Topic was stated to be a highly commendable category."
EDAC Message - Winning Submissions Booklet

Of 323 submissions from across Canada in each of thirteen categories, the Coast of Bays' brochure, "The Natural Way To Do Business", took first place in the Special Purpose Brochures for a Project/Theme/Topic, under $250,000 budget category. In addition, the promotional package showcasing the aquaculture industry, tourism, community living, services, cultural industries, the fishery and the natural resources of the Coast of Bays zone took second place in the Direct Mailing Pieces, under $250,000 budget category.

These promotional materials were developed as a joint effort of the Coast of Bays Corporation and the Connaigre Industrial Adjustment Service (IAS) committee in 1998. A promotional materials committee of the two organizations included Tracey Perry, Churence Rogers, Kim Drake, Bridget Kelly and Jeff Gillam. This committee was given the task of developing a logo for the Coast of Bays region, determining the marketable features of the region, acquiring suitable photography and formulating it into an attractive, informative marketing package. After many months of meetings and subsequent consultations with Darmonkow and Associates, a graphic design company in St. John's, a final package was sent to the printers. Over the past year and a half, this package has been presented to strategic people in government, the investment world and various government agencies dealing with international trade.

This promotional package was made possible through the financial support of the Department of Development and Rural Development through the Community Industrial Adjustment Service (IAS) Program. The Coast of Bays Corporation acknowledges the support for this project of the Hon. Beaton Tulk, Minister of Development and Rural Renewal and the Hon. Oliver Langdon, MHA, Fortune Bay - Cape LaHune and Minister of Environment and Labour.
