| The Coast of Bays Corporation has actively been
involved in collecting data for a regional Human Resources Profile.
Various methods of data collection have been used including mail in
surveys from residents and businesses in the region. However, due to
the low number of surveys completed, five HR Data Collectors have been
hired under a project funded through the Job Creation Partnership
Program of HRDC to conduct a door to door survey.
On Monday, May 12th, these five persons participated in
a staff orientation and data collection training session. They began
their door to door survey on Tuesday, May 13th and for the
next four weeks will survey every household and business in the twenty
two communities within the region. Daphne Tobin-Evans will be
surveying the communities in the Fortune Bay North region from Coomb’s
Cove to Rencontre East while Laurie Quann will conduct her survey in
Harbour Breton. Tryphina Langdon will be knocking on doors in Seal
Cove, Hermitage-Sandyville, Gaultois and McCallum; Genny Hull in St.
Alban’s, St. Joseph’s Cove and St. Veronica’s; and Jamie Fudge
in Milltown-Head Bay d’Espoir, Morrisville and Conne River. The
information they are requesting is needed to profile the region with
respect to the average incomes, level of education, number of people
in the workforce, number of people unemployed, labour force activity,
and population. This information is critical in determining a
realistic and accurate human resources profile for our region. The
profile will be used to determine training required for emerging
opportunities in tourism, aquaculture, fisheries, and other
industries.
The information shared will be kept strictly confidential and any
reporting will be on a summary basis only. Names of individuals or
families will not, in any case, be used in the profile or on the
surveys. "We have the utmost respect for the privacy of our
residents and business operators" stated Deborah Collier, Human
Resources Planner "I am sincerely hoping that the residents and
business operators in this region understand the importance of the
information requested and take the few minutes required to complete
the survey. These five data collectors have participated in a training
session prepared by the Coast of Bays Corporation and are fully aware
of the need for confidentiality." |
