Minister Efford then pressed the button to make the contents of this CD available on the internet at the Coast of Bays website.
This CD was funded by ACOA through the Regional Economic Development and Schools program with the purpose of allowing teachers and students explore career opportunities and acquire knowledge and skills related to a growth sector of the local economy. Students in local schools grew salmonids from the smolt stage carrying out the day to day husbandry duties as part of the aquaculture course curriculum which was developed during the course of this program.
Minister Efford addressed the gathering saying how pleased he was of this initiative. He said we're on the right track and have to do more, as Newfoundlanders, to get the message out about the good things that are happening here in various industries such as aquaculture. He spoke too, about the importance of education in economic development and how this CD would do much to educate the public about the industry.
Following this, Tracey presented Minister Efford with the first CD while others were presented to each school, library and CAP site in the region.
