The Coast of Bays Corporation hosted the Central
Newfoundland Aquaculture Forum at Harbour Breton and St. Alban's on October 19 - 21, 2001.
In attendance were politicians and people representing industry services providers,
development agencies along with the general public. On Friday, the discussions at St. Alban's dealt with finfish aquaculture while
concurrent discussions at Harbour Breton centered around
shellfish aquaculture. On Saturday, all participants
came together at the Lions Club in St. Alban's for a day of general discussions.
On Saturday evening, a banquet was held at the Vancor Hotel for the participants of the
forum. The Chair of the Coast of Bays Corporation, Don Stewart, welcomed everyone to
the region and pointed out the importance of developing the aquaculture industry.
"We've talked about the potential for years," he said, "now let's get on
with development". The Hon. Beaton Tulk, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural
Development, was the after dinner speaker. He promised action on behalf of the
government to ensure that the industry receives the support it deserves to move forward
and achieve it fullest potential.
A trade show was held at the Bay D'Espoir Rec-Plex during Friday and Saturday. The
forum concluded on Sunday morning with a continental breakfast at the Motel Bay D'Espoir. |
