Du Nord Wilderness Reserve and down the Bay Du Nord
Canadian Heritage River . The Bay Du Nord Wilderness Reserve has been established to preserve the wilderness, wildlife populations and plant communities representative of wild Newfoundland which thrive with little or no disturbance from man. There are numerous hiking trails and a canoe routes making access to the area challenging but enjoyable. A Wilderness Reserve Travel Permit is required and must be obtained prior to your visit. These permits can be obtained by contacting the Department of Natural Resources - Forestry division office in Milltown at (Tel)709.882.2200 or by (Fax)709.882.2309 or the Parks and Natural Areas division of the department at 33 Reid's Lane in Deer Lake, NL. A8A 2A3 (Tel) 709.635-4520 (Fax) 709.635.4541. The Bay Du Nord Canadian Heritage River is a 90km river with numerous lakes, steadies and rapids. Canoeing or kayaking the lower portion of this river calls for expert skill levels. It empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Pool's Cove. |
